PLN & Lurking

Personal Learning Network (PLN)

"A Personal Learning Network is a way of describing the group of people that you connect with to learn their ideas, their questions, their reflections, and their preferences." Marc-Andre Lalande

One thing I love about starting a blog is that I am able to expand my PLN. It is important for instructors to create a PLN so that they have multiple resources to go to for information. They can be connected to what they are interested in, and what is most applicable to their situation. The wider their PLN, the more accessible knowledge will be. Students should also build a wide PLN in this digital era. They can ask questions, solve problems, develop friendships, and more through their global PLN with just the tap of their screen.

Lurking

"Lurking is the reading or viewing of an online community without posting or engaging with the community." Techopedia

Although I am an extrovert who typically has no problem sharing my thoughts or opinions, I am often a lurker when it comes to online situations. Lurking is very common when someone is first visiting a site or a discussion. It can help the person test the waters and get a taste of the situation. Some sites even suggest lurking at first as to not create a war of opinions too quickly. I find myself lurking because I am a pretty private person and know that what is shared online stays forever. As to deepen my digital footprint I am trying to be more involved online and to step away from the shadows.

First of all, your blog is so cute! I love the style and colors! I also agree with what you said about PLNs, I think it's a great way to connect with others and allows for more learning of things that interest you. I too am someone that lurks at times haha.

I like your definition of both terms, they are insightful. I didn't realize that being a lurker could avoid the unnecessary war of opinions. It is so true because people often argue or judge different things or people online, those words are mean and they don't take responsibility for what they were saying. It is better to be a lurker to decide joining in the conversation or not.

I can definitely say that I am an online lurker. I like to see what people are up to and how they are addressing situations but I am not an active poster to address different things I have experienced.
