Life with Technology & EDU 305 class

Growing up in the age of technology

"The great growling engine of change - technology. " Alvin Toffler

I was born in the year 2000 and have been able to see the world adapt with technology. During elementary school I saw more and more computers being added to the classrooms, and even began to see students with their own smartphones. I remember vividly the first time I ever saw a smart board in my class in sixth grade. In Junior High and high school I was surrounded by phones, iPads, and tablets. The most significant technological period for me was when I was on my mission, where we would find, teach, and study online. Now that I am in college, I cannot imagine my life without computers, cell phones, projectors, cameras, and more.

Education 305 Class

"Technology won't replace teachers, but teachers who use technology will probably replace teachers who do not." Unknown

I am very excited about this EDU 305 Technology class. I want to learn how to implement new and creative uses of technology in class. I also want to learn how to teach students how to develop safe and uplifting habits with technology. I want to learn how to balance old and modern resources for teaching. I hope to be able to expand my students' knowledge from beyond the classroom into the digital world.

Hey nice to be in your class again! I like what you wanted to get out of the class. Especially the part about teaching students how to develop uplifting habits with technology. I feel that technology can be an amazing tool which can help us in education but it can also distract us from our work as well. I also felt a little bit old reading your blog because of the use of a smartboard in your 6th grade class. We still used chalk and a chalkboard in my school when I was in 6th grade. Anyway thanks for the blog it looks great!

Aloha Melody! I loved what you said about teaching students uplifting habits with technology. I think it can be easy to get caught up in social media or other things on our devices that take us out of reality and drag us down. Teaching children to use technology as a resource instead of letting it become their master is such an important thing right now, and something that I think should be a focus of every classroom. Thank you for your response! (Also, I adore the layout of your blog!)
